How do I remove fuel smell from new leather shoes?

I just bought a new pair of shoes from DSW, and they have a strong fuel smell. They are from China, so I ume the smell is from the contrainer they travelled across the ocean in. I work in an office and some of my cubicle neighbors are commenting on the smell. HELP!
