Okay, so when I turned my computer on I had no toolbar, no desktop items and no start menu.?

I have none of the above and the only way I can open programs or files is by pressing control + alt + delete and then 'new task'. Every Time reset my computer the same thing happens, nothing shows up but my wallpaper. A message the comes up telling me what is loading comes up however in the top left corner and it is always stuck on Internet Explorer. This all happened after I ran an updater and it updated my internet explorer. Please help. It is driving me insane.
