Is it necessary to have a scholarship to join the NROTC at my college?

I want to become an officer in the marines, by any means necessary, even if its not through NROTC. But, i would really like to participate in this program, it seems like i would learn alot. Do i HAVE to have a scholarship to join this program? And also, after a graduate, do i automatically become an officer? And do i become a reserve officer first, or go straight to active duty? Any help from Marines or Marine vets would be great. Thanks
